Weatherization Assistance Program

Based on the principle that individuals do not act in isolation but belong to a larger family and community. Family Development seeks to help all families achieve self-sufficiency. Family Development, a form of strength-based case management, involves a holistic, long-term approach to assist economically and socially disadvantaged families achieve financial independence and a healthier interdependence with the rest of their community.

Community Action of Greene County offers the following programs:

Extra Helpings Food Buying Club:

Through the Regional Food Bank of Northeast New York, nutritional food packages are available for purchase each month at a reduced cost.  There is no income guideline for this program.  

Wheels for Work: For those meeting income guidelines that can demonstrate a steady work history, a low interest car loan may be obtained.  Assistance may also be available with automobile insurance payments.

Healthy Homes: Services to families that are at risk of intervention by Child Protective Services due to unhealthy living conditions.

GED: GED instruction is provided to adults (21 and over) during non-traditional hours at our convenient Catskill location.

Career Clothing Closet: Donated articles of clothing, suitable for work-place attire, are provided to those re-entering the work force.

Partners-Catch-A-Ride: Available to working individuals within income guidelines, Community Action of Greene County, Inc. operates vans that provide transportation to and from employment and training sites.

Resource Room: Sponsored by the Columbia Greene Workforce Investment Office, a computer is available for use to research employment opportunities.  Telephone and facsimile services are also available.

Emergency Food Pantry  Funded through Emergency Food & Shelter National Board Program and the generosity of concerned churches, civic groups, schools, and individuals, Community Action of Greene County, Inc.. operates an Emergency Food Pantry.  Those requesting service are provided with a three-day supply of food, and are asked to complete and intake and brief interview.  The consumer may then be referred to other supports within the agency or community that may be of assistance to them.

Seasonal Programs:  Each fall, new and gently used outerwear is collected from the public and distributed to those in need throughout Greene County.

 

Back to School Supplies: Based on our belief that no child should start their academic year at ad a disadvantage, through the generosity of private corporations and citizens, donated backpacks and necessary school supplies are distributed throughout the County.
