Senior Companion Program Director

35 Hours / Week

 

General Duties:

 

To provide direction and oversight to the Senior Companion Program including:

Resource development

Strategic planning

Program development

Fiscal management

  • Stipend management

  • Promotional activities

  • Staff supervision

  • Volunteer recruitment

  • Management and coordination with agency and community resources

 

Qualifications:

 

  • B.A. / B.S. in Social Work, human Services, Gerontology, or related field, of which at least two years were in a supervisory capacity.

  • Knowledge of grant/contract administration.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Volunteer management experience.

  • Knowledge of community resources.

  • Must have well-developed computer skills.

  • New York State Central Registry clearance required.

 

Activities Include:  
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with community organizations to gain support and promote linkages with other agencies.

  • Plan and implement promotional activities to market program services and increase community awareness.

  • Develop and maintain funding sources: Prepare grant applications and contracts for new and continuing funding sources to maintain sound financial base for program.

  • Prepare quarterly/annual program reports as required by funding sources to evaluate progress, identify problems and maintain regular communication with funders.

  • Prepare and conduct presentations in  variety of external settings o request funding support, including state legislative committees, City Council, Aging committee and United Way.

  • Negotiate, review and update Memoranda of Understanding with volunteer stations to establish guidelines for volunteer placements.

  • Prepare annual program budget; monitor revenues and expenditures to maintain fiscal control.

  • Provide primary staff support and technical assistance to the SCP Advisory Council to carry out promotional, fundraising, evaluation and volunteer support activities.

  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff to ensure effective program operations.

  • Represent program in community through presentations, affiliations, participation in meetings and conference to increase viability of the program, expand base of knowledge, secure funding and recruit volunteers.

  • Establish long range goals and objectives for program to create vision and provide leadership.

  • Manage and process checks for stipend, travel and meal budget for volunteers to meet grant requirements.

  • Recruit, screen, place and supervise Senior Companions to ensure successful and productive volunteer assignments.

  • Develop new volunteer stations in response o community needs.

  • Maintain accurate supervisory records to comply with Corporation requirements.

  • Participate as a member of the agency management team promoting cooperation between components in meeting the mission of the agency.
